Levin, Rojas, Camassar & Reck LLC
Our law firm was created to protect preemies from contracting Necrotizing Enterocolitis (NEC). NEC is a devastating disease where bacteria grows in the baby’s intestines which inflame, bleed, perforate and die, often requiring surgery to remove the dead portion of the intestines. Cow’s milk-based baby formulas, like Similac and Enfamil, have been known to significantly increase the risk of preemies developing NEC. Despite scientific studies showing the link between cow’s milk-based formula and NEC, these formulas continue to be fed to preemies in the NICU. Worst of all, Similac and Enfamil do not even warn mothers that their babies could contract NEC and even die. The data and the science is overwhelming, yet the formula companies refuse to change the way they sell and market their formulas.
Studies show that breast milk decreases the risk of NEC, while cow’s milk-based formulas increase the risk of NEC. Why aren’t mothers told of this risk to their babies? The most vulnerable human beings are not being protected.
We are the first law firm in the country to sue the makers of Similac and Enfamil alleging that these products are associated with an increased risk of NEC. We hope to change the unsafe practices of offering cows milk formula to preemies who have an increased risk of NEC.
If your baby was injured or suffered from NEC, please contact us. We can seek justice for you and your loved ones. Together we can make the NICUs safer for preemies.
